Monster Yellow Sandflies At Uretiti Beach...

Scientists from New Zealand's Department of Horizontal Flying Insects say that the La Nina weather pattern with its sub-tropical conditions have caused a rash of these monster yellow sandflies to frequent the country's East Coast beaches this summer.
I managed to photograph one of these low flying yellow beasties yesterday as it sailed past at a squillion miles an hour.
You could easily get bitten by this bug...

  1. Lots of sandflies around but I managed to avoid this one. Looks like fun though.
